Class details

Join us for a short oil painting course led by Diana Braybrook. During the four week course we shall focus on capturing the memories of summer; from the sunshine to the beach, parks and festivals and capturing the interplay of sunlight and shadow.

This series of four oil painting workshops is for anyone who loves painting with oil paints, or wants to give them a try.

Wednesdays 10am – 1pm

14 September – 5 October inclusive

Course Fee: Full – £105 ; Retiree – £90 ; Concession – £70

Limited to 9 artists

Our studio is a place for you to plan and start a painting; then bring it to fruition with support and encouragement from an experienced oil painter.

Over the four sessions Diana will

  • show you ways in which some other artists have approached this theme
  • help you compose and start your own painting on the theme ‘Summer Sunshine’, using your own photos and sketches as a starting point
  • show you ways in which different painting techniques can be used most effectively as your painting progresses

It doesn’t matter if you are just starting your journey with oil paints, or an experienced artist, this short oil painting course suits artists with all levels of experience. You’ll be able to develop your style in the company of like minded artists.

We shall provide the following equipment for each session:

  • Studio easel, chair and small table
  • Non-toxic painting medium
  • Large single use paper palettes
  • Jam jar for holding wet brushes
  • Space on a drying rack to hold one wet painting per artist between sessions.

You need to bring the following materials:

  • Sketches/photos of something memorable that you want to paint – a couple of options would be good
  • Paper, drawing materials for preparatory work – ruler also useful
  • Stretched canvas or board to paint your picture on – maximum size is 594 x 891 mm (23.4 x 33.1 in)
  • Oil paints
  • Brushes, palette knife/s, old sponge, old credit card
  • Rags or kitchen roll
  • Small pot or jar with lid for painting medium (non-toxic medium provided)
  • Baby wipes for messy fingers
  • Plastic bag to take used brushes home for cleaning
