Class details

Our focus in this series of four workshops is “Big Sky; Big Brush”. The workshops are for anyone who loves painting with oil paints, or wants to give them a try.

Wednesdays

10am – 1pm

1 – 22 March inclusive

Course Fee: Full – £110 ; Retiree – £95 ; Concession – £75

Limited to 9 artists

In this short course our focus will be on painting interesting skies using large brushes, so our theme is ‘Big Sky; Big Brush’.

Our studio is a place for you to plan and start a painting; then bring it to fruition with support and encouragement from an experienced oil painter. Over the four sessions Diana will

  • show examples of other painters’ work and explain some techniques for painting a variety of different skies
  • help you compose and start your own painting on the theme ‘Big Sky’’, using your own photos and sketches as a starting point
  • show you ways in which different painting techniques can be used most effectively as your painting progresses

Materials

We shall provide the following equipment for each session:

  • Studio easel, chair and small table
  • Non-toxic painting medium
  • Large single use paper palettes
  • Jam jar for holding wet brushes
  • Space on a drying rack to hold one wet painting per artist between sessions

You need to bring the following materials:

  • Sketches/photos of memorable skies that you want to paint – at least two options would be good
  • Paper & drawing materials for preparatory work – ruler also useful
  • Stretched canvas, board or oil painting paper to paint your picture on – maximum size is 594 x 891 mm (23.4 x 33.1 in).
  • Oil paints
  • Large brushes (ideally including a fan brush), palette knife/s, old sponge, old credit card
  • Rags or kitchen roll
  • Small pot or jar with lid for painting medium (non-toxic medium provided)
