15 September – 20 October

Course Fees: Full £125 ; Retired £100 ; Concession £70

Pay As You Go Rates: Full £25 ; Retired £20 ; Concession £15

Limited to 10 artists

This is a step by step practical course where you will practise drawing still life using both easels and tables. Each week Sheila will create different still life compositions: one large and several smaller ones. During the course you will:

  • explore perspective, tone, line and colour
  • learn to draw natural forms and man made objects
  • create your own compositions
  • explore how the great artists covered still life. We’ll look at work by Van Gogh, Georgia O’Keefe and Robert Mapplelhorpe.

In the final week you’ll create your own composition using items at OPEN and whatever you choose to bring from home.

Once you’ve reached the end of this course, Still Life for Beginners and Beyond, you’ll be able to approach drawing still life with confidence. You’ll be able to use easels, drawing boards and tables with ease and may decide to join groups like Urban Sketchers.

We’ll provide:

1 A4 & A3 sketchbook for each participant

You’ll need to bring:

Drawing materials
