In this six week course you will

  • learn how to draw and paint with confidence

  • learn how to implement newly learned skills into your own artwork
  • learn how to develop your own style

Improve Your Drawing and Painting is suitable for beginners and those artists who have some knowledge but want to improve. By the end of the course you will have created several pieces of art which incorporate a variety of techniques. You will have also developed a practical approach to planning and executing a piece of art. Finally, you will improve your visual language and learn new ways of describing art.

The class size is limited to a maximum of 10 people so you get some one to one support with the tutor.

You have the choice of working in either acrylic or oils during this course. Joel encourages you to develop at your own pace and challenges you to incorporate the skills you learn into your artwork. As a result you will be able to create unique art that matches your personal taste.

  • Pencil sharpener; an eraser; ruler
  • Paint brushes
  • Paint
  • 1 x pad of paper suitable for acrylic or oil paints

Cass Art have very good starter kits which include paint, brushes and paper – www.cassart.co.uk starter acrylic set or starter oil set

About the Tutor

Joel Sydenham (chidi3s) is a visual artist based in Acton, London, with a degree in chemical engineering, which he gave up to fulfill his dream of being an artist, and follow his passion for connecting with people on an emotional level. What inspires Joel is humanity, society, existential concepts, and the human connections to the natural world. However, each piece also focuses on a single aspect of the human experience, and tries to link that aspect back to a bigger picture. Joel believes that we are all part of something bigger than the sum total of our individual selves. And every community belongs to a larger global society.

When he is not painting or creating, Joel is often studying some form of physical science, this feeds his art on an intellectual level. He writes spoken word poetry, which he performs regularly around London. Joel also has a passion for community development, working as an Art Tutor with Hounslow council’s adult education, where he creates and teaches adult and family learning courses. Joel frequently collaborates with charities and youth centers around London, with the aim of using art to create a positive impact in people’s lives.; This feeds his art on an emotional level.

Joel is a qualified tutor and has run over a 50 workshops for charities, educational organizations, and youth centers across London, particularly in the boroughs or Ealing and Hounslow. His personal philosophy is “self-expression, leads to self-knowledge, which leads to self-actualization” he believes every individual is born a creative genius, and his personal goal, (with respect to teaching) is to help people gain the necessary skills to express that genius.
