Introduction to Drawing & Painting is limited to 10 people

Want to learn how to draw and paint? Inspired by the Grayson Perry art programme during lockdown, but finding it difficult to get started. This four week course is the one you’ve been looking for.

Artist and tutor, Joel Sydenham will show you how to master mark making and handle a paint brush using in class exercises and demonstration. Each week Joel will introduce a new concept or technique, as well as guiding you to understand how to best implement these new concepts and techniques into your work. You can work in acrylic or oil and draw or paint a subject of your choosing every week, provided you incorporate newly learned techniques and concepts in your work wherever possible!

Materials Needed for Introduction to Drawing & Painting – you will have to provide your own materials for this course. Cass Art have very good starter kits – see the links below to Cass Art and other supplier bargains we’ve found to help you.

  • 1 x pad of A3 bleedproof paper Frisk Bleedproof Marker paper via Amazon
  • 1 x pad of paper suitable for your chosen medium: Acrylic or Oils
  • Paint: Black, Titanium White, Ultramarine, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Sap Green, Cadmium Yellow and Permanent Rose.
  • Brushes: recommend a starter set via Cass Art or these Mont Marte brushes we found on Amazon
  • Pencils: 4H – 6B – Royal & Langnickel sketching pencils via Amazon
  • Pencil sharpener; an eraser; ruler
  • Sharpies – fine tip or permanent marker
  • Apron or old shirt

About the Tutor

Joel Sydenham (chidi3s) is a visual artist based in Acton, London, with a degree in chemical engineering, which he gave up to fulfil his dream of being an artist, and follow his passion for connecting with people on an emotional level. He is a qualified tutor running workshops for charities, educational organisations, and youth centres across London.

His personal philosophy is “self-expression, leads to self-knowledge, which leads to self-actualisation”. He believes every individual is born a creative genius, and his personal goal for his workshops is to help people gain the necessary skills to express that genius.
