Pastel is a most versatile medium: from the subtle to the dynamic, from controlled observation to subjective expression, working with pastels makes it possible to great effect. Artists throughout history have used pastels to achieve that quality impossible to render in oils, watercolours or acrylics. Look at Edgar Degas or Mary Cassatt, Toulouse Lautrec or Paula Rego; they have all used soft pastels to achieve stunning effects.
In four week course you examine and develop your technique in the following areas:
- portraits and people – week 1
- figures – week 2
- abstract design – week 3
- landscapes – week 4
