Come and join us for the next in our series of conversations with creative and inspiring people. We start this chapter in conversation with journalist, Carlene de Bourg-Bender. Her talk is a great introduction to the world of journalism.

Carlene de Bourg-Bender is a Trinidad-born journalist who has lived in London for over twenty years. During her talk, Carlene will share her journey from her first newsroom job to her current roles.

After starting her career in 1989 at the Trinidad Express, Carlene moved to Jamaica where she studied Media and Communication at the University of the West Indies. During this time she also worked as an editor at the Jamaica Observer. She relocated to London, where she completed her Masters in Gender, Culture and Modernity. Following that she worked as a freelance sub-editor at the Financial Times, Camden New Journal, and Ukrainska Dumka. 

Carlene’s talk is a great introduction to the world of journalism for school and college students considering it as a career. It is also of value to anyone interested in this field. Her varied experience makes her the perfect candidate to show budding journalists how exciting a career in the media can be.
