Special ‘acoustic’ performances from Hedara, Little Lore & Stacey Woods will mark a celebration of Ealing’s Women in Music held as part of Rock’s Diamond Year 2022.

Whilst the West London Blues musicians of 1962 were usually male; two female singers from Ealing were already becoming household names.

Dusty Springfield released her first solo single, ‘I only want to be with you’ in 1962. American museums acknowledge her role in championing the music of Tamla Motown.

Cleo Laine was already gaining attention as an actor and jazz singer. She performed with the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra. She is widely regarded as the foremost jazz singer born in Britain.

In later decades, Kirsty MacColl would become an Ealing resident while establishing herself as one of the most appreciated talents from the UK music scene.

The Ealing Club gave birth not only to British R&B, but also to its distinctive sound. Many of the young players who started out at the Ealing Club went on to achieve international success, notably:

  • The Rolling Stones
  • The Who
  • Cream
  • the Jimi Hendrix Experience

Organisers Robert Salmons and Alistair Young of the Ealing Club have put together an extensive programme of events to commemorate Rock’s Diamond Year in 2022. We look forward to seeing you on 31 March as we celebrate women in music. Buy your tickets by clicking on this link
