The Programme

In this edition we feature sets from

The Oneirologist

The Oneirologist is the electro-acoustic/Audio-visual project of Rick Jensen (Apocalypse Jazz Unit, The Jonny Halifax Invocation, SKRONK, Romance of Baba Loco, Animals from Hell and much more). Typically solo but also does collaborative work, he uses saxes, clarinets, electronics and anything that can be found to create soundscapes from noise to understated and quiet.

Nnja Riot

Nnja Riot is the solo project of artist Lisa McKendrick. She has recently released a new studio album “Violet Fields” in February 2024 which is available on cassette with Cruel Nature Records. Her music is a journey into the potential of electronic beats, musical instruments recorded as samples, modular synthesis, auditory fragments, and vocals. Her live performances incorporate an amalgamation of textures, beats and melody. On stage, she likes to probe the concept of art as a ritual, employing custom-made costumes and headdresses. Her approach to making live music is to allow the music to take on a new life for each performance, while maintaining a framework to create and improvise with.

Acoustic Survey

Jakub Rokita is a sound installation artist, improvisational musician and a visual artist. with work focusing on audio-responsive sound and intermedia installations in which audiences become active co-creators of the spectacle. As a sound recordist and an improvisational, electroacoustic musician, his collaborative and solo projects investigate the acoustic qualities of post-industrial and post-commercial spaces – sounds of instruments, field recordings and found objects become vessels capturing the resonances of those disused rooms. Jakub also works with a variety of visual media – from analogue photography and printmaking to video, favouring 20th century, mechanical, analogue and manual processes, like darkroom photography, VHS or screen-printing. Those diverse aspects of his practice often become intertwined, one affecting the other, and end results frequently have an inter-media character.

Ben Glass x Ben Barrett

Ben Glass and Ben Barrett have been making music together in different formations for nearly 20 years. For Ealing Extranormal they’ve combined their more experimental solo projects, for a set based around loops, drones and improvisation.

Ben Glass makes music using analogue and digital electronics, found sound, distortion, guitars, limited ability, looping and feedback. He founded Electric Sound in 2010 to organise live events and release his first solo EP, The Roundabouts, which was made with a broken Casiotone in a Travelodge in Warrington. His next three EPs experimented with different methods and sounds, from sample based (almost) dance, to analogue process music and minimalist psychedelia.

Ben Barrett is a London-based guitarist who builds ambient drones from improvised and processed loops. His music aims to transform the sound of guitar and immerse the listener in the melodic possibilities of layered sound combinations and phantom harmonies. He has self-released the albums Electric Guitar Orchestra and A Onda as well as a compilation of tracks released by Take Records, Absence of Wax, Twin Freaxx, In Response to…,Futuresequence and others.
