The Programme

In this edition we feature sets from

MC4

A new quartet of Matt Clark on guitar, Charlotte Keeffe on trumpet, Ozzy Moysey on double bass and James Edmunds on drums.

Matt Clark’s previous releases have evoked a sense of space, of moving through a city, written and recorded with a feeling of wanting to escape during lockdown.

This new quartet continues the urban theme with an exploration of music recorded in unconventional spaces; field recordings, free improvisation, developing themes without rehearsing to retain an air of immediacy, spontaneity.

Sarah Angliss

Sarah Angliss’ music explores the sonorities of voices and ancient instruments, revealing and augmenting them with her distinctive electronic techniques.

She draws on her lifelong interest in European folk song, cybernetics and esoteric sound culture. A classically-trained composer who specialised in baroque and renaissance music, she cut her teeth performing on the UK folk scene. Her desire to get inside notes and finely manipulate sound led her to study electroacoustic engineering, then robotics, alongside music – fields that continue to inform her unique compositional style. She’s been a recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Award for Composers (2018) and an Ivor Novello Award 2021 (category: Visionary Award).

Sarah’s performance will feature her robotic carillon “The Ealing Feeder”, making its debut appearance in the town it takes its name from!
