Limited to six participants

Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, this course is an
opportunity for you to adopt a more experimental approach with embroidery.

Working through a series of guided exercises you will learn / revisit a range of stitches and techniques, and be encouraged to break the rules of traditional embroidery. Your end outcome will be a range of exciting and imaginative samples that demonstrate a very individual and personal response.

Materials Required for Experimental Hand Stitch

Please bring materials for this course. You will need:

  • Backgrounds to stitch on
    • Coloured background fabrics dyed, printed, plain (light and medium weight)
    • cotton, calico, silk.
    • Vegetable/fruit netting
    • Papers ( brown oiled, maps, book pages )
    • Felt
    • Scrim, bandages,
    • Hessian, sheers
    • In fact anything just remember you have to get a needle through it!
  • To stitch with
    • A range of threads – thick, shiny, matt, to include stranded cotton, perle,
    • rayon
    • Strips of fabric, plastic bag strips
    • Raffia, ribbon, anything that will go through the needle
