About the Tutor
Joel Sydenham (chidi3s) is a visual artist based in Acton, London, with a degree in chemical engineering, which he gave up to fulfill his dream of being an artist, and follow his passion for connecting with people on an emotional level. What inspires Joel is humanity, society, existential concepts, and the human connections to the natural world. However, each piece also focuses on a single aspect of the human experience, and tries to link that aspect back to a bigger picture. Joel believes that we are all part of something bigger than the sum total of our individual selves. And every community belongs to a larger global society.
When he is not painting or creating, Joel is often studying some form of physical science, this feeds his art on an intellectual level. He writes spoken word poetry, which he performs regularly around London. Joel also has a passion for community development, working as an Art Tutor with Hounslow council’s adult education, where he creates and teaches adult and family learning courses. Joel frequently collaborates with charities and youth centers around London, with the aim of using art to create a positive impact in people’s lives.; This feeds his art on an emotional level.
Joel is a qualified tutor and has run over a 50 workshops for charities, educational organizations, and youth centers across London, particularly in the boroughs or Ealing and Hounslow. His personal philosophy is “self-expression, leads to self-knowledge, which leads to self-actualization” he believes every individual is born a creative genius, and his personal goal, (with respect to teaching) is to help people gain the necessary skills to express that genius.
