Many people have already discovered how reflective writing can calm the mind and increase feelings of wellbeing, particularly when life presents a lot of challenges. Writing in this way is good for us; it encourages us to slow down, breathe a little more deeply, and reflect on what truly matters to us. The poet William Wordsworth certainly understood something of the restorative power of expressive writing when he said, ‘Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart’. This workshop will give us the time and space to do that.

How does the session work?

Using visual imagery and other mixed media as writing prompts, Dr Madar will guide you through specific writing activities designed to help release the words within you in a positive and creative way. You will also discover how these writing activities are tools which you can take away with you to use throughout life.

Writing does not always have to be a solitary experience; and this is what makes group workshops so great; they are enhanced by the support and energy of other participants. We will also be sure to begin with warm up writing games to chase away those “I can’t write anything” jitters.

No previous experience is needed. What’s more, it all takes place in a supportive, nurturing, non-judgemental space. You never have to read out anything you have written—so take comfort in writing whatever you want and in whatever style you want.
